Chapter 0: Beginning
The dripping rain hit the tip of my nose. When I opened my eyes, the first thing I spotted was a stone lantern. This was the backyard of the Tsutsukakushi Household. The clear sky had turned muddy, and the setup of the area had changed from how I remembered. The porch’s sliding door was closed.
More than anything—the air around me was different. What I noticed most in this frozen atmosphere was the scent of death. I remember this air. From a time axis a long time past.
“There we go…”
Suppressing my feelings of discomfort, I climbed onto the porch. The banquet hall had been split in two, with half of it filled with clothes and empty food packages. I could see the newspaper laying on the low dining table.
“…This is it.”
I saw the date of a day long past, back when I was already born. I had assumed that we’d go back way further than this. I have to clear everything up starting from right here. The old custom of the Tsutsukakushi Family, someone’s tragedy, and everyone’s misfortune. I will make it so none of that happened. And then I will create a world filled with blessings.
“Where should I start?”
Should I search for the lord of this home, or for Tsukiko-chan? Maybe I should win over the young Yokodera Boy. While I was thinking that, I turned around once again. I yet again felt like something was off. And I couldn’t ignore it any longer.
In the corner of the banquet hall, I could see a standing mirror. It was covered in dirt, with spiderwebs here and there. But it was still intact enough to fulfill its purpose. In the mirror, I saw a young man standing there. The young man stared back at me and opened his eyes wide.
Reflected in the mirror was me, looking like a grade school student.
