Memory 1: Snoozing off and the Sea and I
“Ah, Senpaaaai! Over here! Here here!”
Arriving at the train station we agreed to meet up, Koori waved her hands as she beckoned me over. She was as cute as always. No, not as always. The more I see her, the more cute she looks in my eyes. Of course, that meant she always looked cute. So much that I can barely take it. But, compared to yesterday, the cuteness she emitted had been raised even more. That’s why I keep thinking to myself.
—There will come a day where I won’t be able to survive her cuteness anymore.
“Senpai, you thinking about some weird stuff again~? I know it’s a bad habit of yours, but keep that down during the time you’re together with me, okay~?”
“…Apologies.”
“A-Ah, well, you don’t have to apologize that earnestly, I was just joking.”
“I was thinking that there will come a day where I won’t be able to survive your cuteness anymore.”
“What are we talking about?!”
Resulting from Koori’s scream, the people around us all directed their attention over here. Reflexively, I was about to unsheathe my sword, but since they emitted no killing intent, I left it at that.
In the meantime, Koori’s face turned beet red.
“Y-You won’t be able to…survive my cuteness…?”
From the sounds of it, Koori didn’t quite pick up what I wanted to say, so I repeated myself.
“Yeah. You’re cute on a daily basis, always and anytime, but you keep getting more and more cute as the days pass us by. I can still barely stand it right now, but eventually there will come a day when your cuteness will kill me—”
“Okay, stop right there! I don’t need to hear any more of that!”
“…? Koori, you’re getting even redder. Are you okay?”

Apparently, me telling her about my feelings was not the right choice. As Koori walked in front of me with fast steps, I decided to be more careful in the future.

I don’t want other people to see me looking like a maiden in love…I guess? Naturally, I’d be totally fine if this was Senpai’s room…or my own even…Places where we could repeat that kiss from a while ago, or even go further than—

We’re outside right now! And the goal was to have fun with Senpai! …Not good, my face is burning hot…
Talking about Senpai, he’s been quiet for a while now, what’s going on…?
“Huh? Senpai?”
He’s not with me…Or so I thought, as he’s having a dispute with the employee at the ticket gate!
“Waaah! Um, excuse me, but what happened?”
“Ah, this customer here crossed the ticket gate, but it looked a bit off to me, so I went to check, and he didn’t have an actual ticket nor a SOYCA1 pass on him.”

That’s what it was. I completely forgot about Senpai’s suspicious reaction back when I told him we’d be taking the train…For now, we apologized to the employee, and went to buy a ticket for Senpai. Though he froze up a second, standing in front of the ticket machine, he seemingly remembered, and was able to buy it normally.
“Sorry about this, Koori…Causing trouble right away…”
“No no…It was my fault.”
Have to be careful that my fantasies don’t run wild.
This time, we properly made it to the train we were supposed to take. Though it was the morning of a holiday, the train wasn’t as booked as I imagined.
“Also, I’m surprised you didn’t send the employee flying, Senpai~”
I didn’t really see it, but I’m sure the employee must have rushed towards Senpai by quite a bit of speed. Knowing him, I wouldn’t be surprised if he reacted weirdly again.
“I was about to…But I held back…”
“Ohhh! Senpai, that’s amazing! Good job!”
Yeah, that really was praiseworthy. Having lived through several other world visits, he trained himself to always be on-guard against any possible danger, which is why he would often react to the smallest movement around him…Man, it’s like I’m watching my own child grow, I’ll start crying at this rate.
As I kept on praising Senpai for a while, he grew a bit flustered, and awkwardly averted his eyes.
“It’s…thanks to you, Koori.”
“Huh? Me??”
Did I do something?
“I don’t want to bother you any more than necessary—With a ‘Monitous2’ like that, I could control my reactions.”
“Moni…what?”
What’d he say?
“To put it in simple terms, it’s something comparable to self-suggestion. I used this for my own sake countless times, but once I redirected it, together with my feelings for you, it worked. That’s why it’s thanks to you.”
“I…don’t really get it, but it seems like you’ve been working hard for my sake, so thanks for that…?”
As I gave a slight bow to Senpai, his face lit up like a small child’s, and he acted flustered.
“So self-suggestion works in that way, huh~”
What was it called? The Placebo effect…? Heard that works with medicine as well…
“Yeah, it’s not just a normal self-suggestion. ‘Monitous’ is like a promise and restraint towards oneself, created by mag—”

Was he about to say magic just there? Senpai stopped himself mid-sentence, so I took a deeper glance at this face.

I mean, I already knew the answer to that. But, watching Senpai flustered like that is too much fun! So I ain’t gonna stop!
Continuing this play for a while, I couldn’t hold back my laughter anymore.

Ahhhh! Senpai apologizing with all his heart is so cute! Man, I can’t help but grin…
“Also, you didn’t give it much thought, and just used magic, right?”

Oh, seems like that was quite the shock for him.

Also, I didn’t even realize he was using magic in the first place. I mean, if the surroundings don’t catch on to it, it should be fine if he used magic…Nah, maybe not. We’re still inside the train, so I guess we shouldn’t be talking about this sort of stuff.
Still, for Senpai, magic sure is a part of his daily life. Guess that makes sense, having lived 20 years like that…I haven’t even been alive that long, so I can’t even fathom how long that must feel. Basically, he must have been using magic more than half of his entire life…Speaking in my terms, what did I do half of my life…so for eight years…Being a reader model? I have done that ever since I was six, but there were times when I wasn’t feeling it…
Yeah, I guess that I just can’t compare. And now, Senpai made it home, and is trying his best so that he can be with me…He’s amazing.
…Eh, my heart’s beating so fast…And, Senpai’s profile from my point of view…is like super cool…Eh, what’s happening with me?! Calm down, calm down me!

“Not quite…it’s just…that I was looking forward to this date, so…”

Ahhhh! Ahhhh…that’s such a great faceeeeeeeeeeeee! We didn’t even make it to Shinjuku3 yet, and I’m already more than satisfied. Will I even be able to make it through the day? I won’t die of happiness, right?
Having switched to the other train, this time it was quite crowded inside.

That’s what you’d expect from an early train on a holiday. Wah, they keep on coming as well…Ah, um…this is…
“W-We’re kinda close, aren’t we…”
Senpai and I were basically glued to the other. I don’t know why, but seeing him up-close like this sure feels nostalgi—Woah?! Senpai’s face is as red as a tomato?! And…it almost looks like…he’s trying to endure something…or holding back…?!

Woah, he’s so desperate! I don’t know why, but he’s crazy desperate! To be honest, I could look at this face for days, but I wouldn’t want him to suffer more than necessary. He did say that he wouldn’t be able to hold back if I got too close to him…I mean, not like he had to hold back in the first place.
That being said, I feel bad for him.
“Um, how about we move over to the seats? This close to the door, we’ll just get crushed at this rate.”
Naturally we’ll end up pushed against the other like this…Again, not that I mind it though. We moved over to the seats, and happened to spot a free space for the two of us. This should be fine…right?
Taking a look over at Senpai’s profile, he seems to have calmed down a bit as well…Good, good.
“Lucky, aren’t we~”
“Yeah, we’re saved.”
“Pfft, saved…”
But, we really were lucky. Coming up with the plan for today, coordinating clothes that I’d be wearing, fantasizing about the things we would be doing, I’m lacking some sleep here, desperately. I mean, just being with Senpai gives me tons of energy, but saving as much as I can isn’t a bad idea, huh.
“Koori, are you okay?”
“…Huh? What do you mean?”
“It looks like you’re not doing too well.”
“Eh…you can tell?!”
Huh?! Why?! I mean, I wasn’t yawning, and if anything, I’m acting more excited than usual, so he shouldn’t have been able to—Ah, with magic?! But, before I could ask, Senpai nodded, as if his assumptions had been proven correct.
“I can tell because it’s you, Koori.”
“Seriously…”
That’s…crazy amazing, isn’t it? That means that he’s always watching me, right? This guy sure knows how to make me happy…Also, that confident face of his ain’t half bad…!

“A-Ah, I’m sorry…Well, I just haven’t gotten enough sleep last night, so I was worried I might fall asleep mid-way through.”

“That’s why, you better tell me some interesting stories so that I don’t fall asleep, Senpai~”

“Ahaha, so honest! I’m joking, I’ll try my best to stay awake. With today’s weather being really nice, I could sit on the terrace this morning—Ah, talking about good weather, I went on a cherry blossom viewing with the folks from the MoRe club a while ago—Ah, you know about the cherry blossom viewing, right?”

“……I see.” Senpai nodded along deeply.
How do I say it, just that alone is reassuring. Man, now I want to watch the cherry blossoms with Senpai as well…We definitely have to go next time! Well…I guess it’s not the season for cherry blossoms anymore…Look them up online maybe—I thought, already about to take out my smartphone, when I realized.
“Ah, right, Senpai, how did things end with your club?”
“My…club…? Did I ever join one?”

Senpai looked down at his hands, as if he was trying to remember. That expression is so cool! Also, our shoulders are touching right now, is he fine with that…?
Still, talking about it like this, even now, it feels totally unreal…I mean, Senpai’s first impression was really the worst…but that’s why I was able to remember him so easily…Ahh, that takes me back~ Back then, so much happened…so many things…

Feeling that Koori was getting closer to me, I almost jumped up out of shock. I was only able to hold back because I thought of the possible danger for Koori if I suddenly jolted up from my seat. Looking over at Koori to check the situation—she apparently had fallen asleep. No traces of any sleep magic around. If there was, I could counteract it. No other irregularities were to be found either…
Koori mentioned that she was in a sleep-deprived state. So basically, this is…
“She’s just asleep.”
Arriving at this conclusion, I relaxed a bit…Thank god. It took me by surprise, and I was about to use magi—Before I could finish my thoughts, I realized.
Koori’s head. Leaning without restraint. On my shoulder.

This is bad. This is really bad. Really, really bad. For a second, the possibility of waking Koori flashed up inside my head, but I immediately decided against that choice. Most prominent reason for this, Koori’s sleeping face. So defenseless, pure, and the sweet scent drifting up from her neck. This situation, the most blissful you could ever think of—
“What am I…”
The second I held my head with one hand, Koori’s head was about to slip off my shoulder, forcing me to quickly grab it. In that, I could feel her smooth, glossy hair—
Wait a second. Just now, I was just protecting her from any sort of danger…Because I want this situation to continue just a bit longer, without her having to wake up—No, not that!
“……”
I had to take some deep breaths. Unable to direct my gaze anywhere, I just turned frantic to tear my focus away from this sensation of Koori. If I could use magic, I could achieve this in a fragment of a second.
Something is clearly wrong with me right now. I should probably reset myself at once. If not, I’ll just keep wanting to sniff more of the sweet scent coming up from Koori’s soft body.
“……!!!”
…No good. My senses have gotten stimulated to the level where they’ve become highly sensitive, allowing me to feel Koori even more!
—Feel Koori? Feel…Koori…
“~~~!!! Ar—”
No, I can’t use magic. I promised Koori. I can’t run away from that promise just because I’m feeling weird now…
With strong emotions residing in my heart, I closed my eyes. Thinking about this for a brief moment, I found myself calming down. Apparently, my promise to Koori had an even stronger effect than magic. That’s Koori for you. If it’s like this—I started thinking, but grew conscious of her sensation on my shoulder again, almost forcing me to use ‘Arusal’.
Really, I never learn…I’ve never lost control over myself to such a level in any of the other worlds I’ve visited…Koori really is special. More than anybody or anything else. That’s why—

“………Shinjuku?”
If my memory serves me right, we were supposed to get off here in Shinjuku to visit this ‘Macarosso’ place Koori had spoken so fondly of. In order for that to happen, I would have to wake her up right now.
Wake up…Koori…
Though I don’t know the circumstances for it, Kooi had suffered from a lack of sleep. Without even needing to check, she was sound asleep. Her sleeping face was unbearably cute. I’m confident I could look at this face for the rest of my life. Even if I were to lose all luxury I could and have ever possessed in this world, being able to see her sleeping face would be more than enough for me.

She looked like she was comfortable, getting back a few moments of sleep. Having made my way through various other worlds, I’ve seen people sleep so many times I lost count, never had anybody looked so comforting, and so charming. Most likely, Koori is—
“The doors are about to close. Please step away for your own safety.”

Before I even realized it, the train had arrived at Shinjuku, and was about to depart already, as the doors closed. Inside this train, slowly driving away from Shinjuku station, I painfully became aware of my failure. I knew that we had to get off at this station no matter what.
Yet, I couldn’t wake her up. No matter how many excuses I would stack upon the other, that fact would not change. But, why…how did I not…
“Zzz…zzz…”
I heard Koori’s faint breath, as she was still away in the land of her dreams. Her warmth hitting my shoulder was definite proof that she was still alive, leaving me relieved more than anything. Koori is alive, and right here with me…
“……………No.”
I have to stop…
But, she’s here with me, and that is indisputably a wonderful thing, and I hate to repeat myself, but her sleeping face is unbearably cute.
“……”
I can’t think properly…My thoughts would always drift into a weird direction…And, this heightened heartbeat plaguing me, together with my blood boiling all over my body, it’s very obvious that I’m lusting for—
“Don’t think about it.”
My thoughts will become a weakness. Thinking about these things will only bring about my own ruin—

The interior of the train shook ever so slightly, moving Koori’s head a bit to the side which allowed me to see into her cleavage and her underw—

I couldn’t look Koori in the eyes. We didn’t exchange a single word after stepping off the train, as I just stood inside the station, unable to talk to Koori. It felt like time came to a halt. Finally, Koori slowly opened her mouth, after inspecting her surroundings.
“…Where are we?”
I don’t believe she was truly asking for the location we found ourselves in. Rather—Why are we in Zushi. We were supposed to end up in Shinjuku. That’s why she must have been confused like this. I was the one to give the answer to that, and I already had mine prepared.
Without putting in any excuses, I have to give her the cold, hard truth.
‘I didn’t want to wake you up, Koori.’
It’s not because I couldn’t wake her up, I literally didn’t. I wanted to watch her sleeping face as long as possible…That’s basically what it boils down to. No matter what kind of excuse I may come up with, at the base of it all, that’s what happened. I prioritized my own desires, leaving Koori asleep even as we arrived at our destination. No matter how she may blame me, I will accept it. I have to accept it. That’s why—
“Pffft! Aha…ahahahahahaha! Z-Zushi! We’re really in Zushi! Wait, where is Zushi even?! Ahahaha!”
Koori suddenly burst out laughing, leaving me in surprise. As I was left perplexed, wondering how to react to this, Koori swiftly took out her smartphone, looking something up.
“Z-Zushi…it’s really Zushi…Um…ahh, we’re in the Kanagawa prefecture! Kanagawa, huh…S-Still…we wanted to head to Shinjuku, and came to Kanagawa…Ahaha, this is great…Woah! The sea is crazy close to us! Senpai, let’s go, let’s go!” Her smile she showed me was almost blinding so radiant it was.
Seeing her smile I thought she would never show me again, I once again cast ‘Arusal’ on myself, seeing if this was a hallucination.
“Hm? Senpai, are you not feeling well? Ah, were you looking forward to ‘Macarosso’ that much?!”
“Well…it would be a lie if I said I wasn’t, but…”
“I thought so! Ahh, I’m really sorry…”
“That’s not it…”
Koori blinked a few times at me.
“…Weren’t you looking forward to it as well, Koori?”
“You mean ‘Macarosso’? Of course I was, hehe!”
“Then…”
“Man, how did things end up like this…We ended up in Zushi because I slept…I mean…Zushi…Haha…hahahaha! I can’t, my stomach…!”
Koori started laughing even more, to which I made up my resolve.
“You’re not…angry…?”
“Angry? Me?”
“After all…if I had woken you up in Shinjuku…”
Yet, I didn’t.
“Ahhh, now that you say it.” Koori clapped her hands together, continuing. “I mean, I was the one to fall asleep on our date, right? I know it sounds weird coming from me, but you really shouldn’t do that~”
“Sleeping when you’re tired is something normal, isn’t it…That is an inevitable physiological phenomenon for you.”
“Pffft! Physiological phenomenon he says! Hahahaha!” Koori burst out in laughter yet again. “How do I say it…you really are kind…Senpai~”
Her bashful expression was burned right into my eyes.
“…I see.” I sighed deeply, filled with relief.

I still think that falling asleep on a date is an absolute no-go. Yet, Senpai was worried that I’d get angry at him for not waking me up…He seriously is too kind for his own good. Ahh, calm down my beating heart! I tried laughing to cover up my embarrassment, paired with my feelings of guilt. I felt oddly…scared to see Senpai’s reaction, but—

…Senpai’s…face just now…Like, he looked relieved, but also determined…I can’t get enough of it. I want to watch it for the rest of my life…

W-What were we talking about again…? Ah, that’s right!
“R-Rather than that, let’s hurry to the sea! The sea, Senpai!”
“The sea…”
“Though we can’t visit the ‘Macarosso’, we might as well use this chance to visit the sea, right? I mean, I was the one to blurt out ‘The sea is crazy close!’, so it might sound weird coming from me.”
“Now that you say it, the scent of the sea close by…”
“Right? We can visit the ‘Macarosso’ another time!”

And so on, we talked, when the sea entered our eyes.

Senpai being Senpai like this makes me so happy! Just a while ago, before Senpai was awake, I would have never imagined something like this was possible. Having just this…is more than enough, really. And yet—
