Memory 4: [Lovey-dovey Journal of Nano-chan and Watase Kairi 2]

Good day. It’s your not-so-favorite useless piece of trash support character that nobody would ever like. In my [Lovey-dovey Journal of Nano-chan and Watase Kairi], I usually only speak of Nano-chan, for obvious reasons of course, but today, I feel the need to talk a bit more about Watase Kairi.

…Or so I thought, but apparently my affection towards Watase Kairi is so low that I immediately lose motivation to do so. How dare he just cling to my goddess Nano-chan, right? Those monkeys without any reason often complain that ‘Even though they apparently are going out, it sure doesn’t feel that way, right?’, but they really don’t get it.

Nano-chan talking to Watase Kairi looks so happy! She is the personification of bliss! You got something in your eyes, huh?!

…Excuse me, the anger got the better of me.

Anyway, though I still feel a slight bit of restraint towards this situation, Nano-chan seems to be happy with him, so I’ll write a journal entry for Watase Kairi as well, hoping that it could give me some credit in Nano-chan’s eyes. Naturally, the same goes for Watase Kairi.

The other day, Watase Kairi started using Link, and was added to the class’ link group. Our class is actually rather difficult to grasp, meaning that a caste…does exist, but split up, allowing for a rather smooth entry. Naturally, that was all guaranteed thanks to the kindness of our goddess Nano-chan, and she was the one to add him to the group in the first place.

To be completely honest, Watase Kairi never gave off the image of a Link user, so I was left rather surprised at first. I have never even seen him use his smartphone at school. Well, thinking about it, our kind goddess Nano-chan probably taught him how to use it…Ahhh, what an angel…NMT…!

However, as expected, Watase Kairi failed horribly.

Sending a stamp spam, creating abominations in the attempt at making emotes, or giving an actual serious reply to a classmate who threw in a joke. Right as I thought they’d be a bit annoyed at that, goddess Nano appeared to save the day, and made them completely forget about Watase Kairi’s weirdness. That just showed how perfect Nano-chan’s response was.

Really, how can Nano-chan be this amazing? Is she the reincarnation of a goddess, having lived in ancient times? Or is she a goddess who has blessed us with her presence…? I see a need for further investigations.

Though the topic has diverged ever so slightly, back then I realized that Nano-chan was really looking after Watase Kairi in every sense of the word, and that I could never forgive Watase Kairi.

Yet, today, a great incident has occurred that has changed my view.

The ball game sports festival. Indeed, a misstep in humanity’s evolution…and this very event is being held at our school. Ah, ‘a misstep in humanity’s evolution’… that phrase just now sounded really cool, I’ll use that later.

Anyway, this accursed event takes the classes of all student years, mixing boys and girls, really making you think if the adults even considered the feelings of those students who aren’t athletic, not to mention offering the shittiest of shitty contents every single year, but at least I get to enjoy the athletic and admirable goddess Nano-chan shine during this time, so I will gladly take this reward. If such a reward didn’t exist in all of this, I would threaten the school with a bombing accident on the day of the festival.

Every year the sport is different, and this year they decided on basketball. The running Nano-chan, Nano-chan sparkling with the sweat running down her cheek, Nano-chan passing the ball, Nano-chan scoring a point, Nano-chan doing a high-five with her team members after scoring a point, and her smile with that…I HAVE ASCENDED!

…Excuse me, I lost control there.

In the end, our class managed to take home an overwhelming win, but to be completely honest, nobody cares about that, because Nano-chan was elected the MVP! Naturally, that was to be expected. The world has finally started to realize the charm that Nano-chan possesses, but aren’t you all a bit too late? Or so I would normally think.

However, back then, I realized something even more detrimental than this.

Nano-chan’s great achievements were without a doubt provided by Watase Kairi. I am fairly certain that nobody but me has realized. That being said, I hadn’t picked up on it at first either. Most likely only after I started writing this journal.

In the beginning, I thought it was but my imagination. Whenever Nano-chan would play an active role, Watase Kairi was always on the court as well, or, even though I was always watching Nano-chan, Watase Kairi would frequently obstruct my view of her as he entered my field of view.

But, when I decided to unwillingly direct my focus at Watase Kairi instead, I saw him always pass the ball to Nano-chan with perfect timing, or guiding his teammates so that they could deliver a clean pass to Nano-chan instead, even allowing Nano-chan to easily catch the ball from the opposing team, showing all sorts of weird actions that made no sense whatsoever…Thinking back to it, all of his actions perfectly led to Nano-chan scoring continuously.

The second I did realize, I got goosebumps. On top of that, nobody realized what even occurred in front of them. Not even Nano-chan, who received this kind of follow-up.

Eh, the heck, that just made me sound like some main character right there, disgusting. I’m sorry, but that one I just couldn’t help myself. Can you believe it?

Are you Kuro*o or something? Kuro*o Tetsuya from Kuro*o no Basket? By the way, I personally like Midori*a Shintarou.

Maybe Watase Kairi is actually more dangerous than I previously estimated him to be…? If so, then as a believer of the Nano-chan church, I cannot keep quiet. Making up my resolve to join the class’ celebration at a nearby karaoke box, observing the situation there, I found shocking results.

Watase Kairi was doing the exact things as he did on the basketball court…! Moving so that Nano-chan could walk easier, moving away classmates that were about to bump into Nano-chan, even choosing a microphone that made it easier for Nano-chan to hold…! He must be doing this on a daily basis, he was way too used to this! But, how did I not realize that then…?!

I was flabbergasted. This person…Watase Kairi…really is dangerous! And at the same time as I felt rage and depression, I was painfully reminded…just how much he loves Nano-chan. That is what I would want to see from a person who has feelings for Nano-chan, and his feelings seem to be genuine as well. I had always assumed Nano-chan to be his guardian, and not that it was a codependent relationship.

Arriving at this conclusion, I thought that they might just be the ideal couple…even if my thoughts only lasted for a little bit. A-Also, my classmates were really desperate to have Watase Kairi sing, but Nano-chan frantically trying to stop this was awfully cute. If I had to guess, Watase Kairi must be awful at singing. And our goddess Nano-chan was trying to hide that out of the goodness of her heart.

In the end, all I can say is that Nano-chan really is the center of the world. And I want to continue watching over her in the knowledge of this as well.

Extra

“Ahhh, that was sooooooooo much fun!”

We were on our way home on the day of the ball game sports festival, right after the karaoke party. Though I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tired, the fun I had was all worth it.

“I was able to observe your greatness the entire day, Koori.”

“Ehh? Ehehehe, you think so?”

“Of course, you’re wonderful each and every day, but this day you were radiating.”

“Ohh, stop it you~”

I’ll get flustered~ And also.

“Senpai, thanks a lot for today.”

“……? What do you mean?”

“I’m talking about the basketball games. You were playing for me a lot, right?”

I didn’t realize until halfway through, and I’m sure the others didn’t catch on to it at all, but Senpai was actually laying a lot of groundwork for my points.

“I really think that you should have been the MVP, Senpai.”

I felt a bit worried about just showing off how great Senpai was, him being my boyfriend and all, but maybe I really should have come clean…

“I don’t remember doing anything that would deserve any praise though.”

“Again with that~”

Senpai said so, his expression never-changing, but—He truly looked like he didn’t know what I was talking about.

“…Eh, seriously?”

“I really don’t remember.”

He’s…actually serious.

“E-Ehhh…? But…”

He clearly made things so easy for me…No matter how I think about it, he—

“Hm…?”

Wait…What if—it’s the opposite? The reason he didn’t feel like he was doing anything special was actually because he is always doing these sorts of things for me…? N-No way, right? …Maybe I have to pay more attention in the future.

Anyway, as I was thinking that, Senpai stopped.

“Senpai?”

As I tilted my head in confusion, Senpai slightly averted his face, only to then look at my face directly.

“Today I once again realized…how proud I am to be your partner, Koori. So, thank you.”

Because of the setting sun, I couldn’t see Senpai’s face that clearly. But, I was pretty certain of what expression he had.

“That’s the same for me, Senpai!”

I smiled from the bottom of my heart, as I chased after him. The End.
